Sometimes purchasing every single item to brew espresso can cost you to break the bank. I’ve paid a ton of money to purchase the best coffee beans grinder for a most uniform grind size. I bought a manual capuccino maker to discover how to use an espresso machine myself. I even got a hobbyist coffee roaster. All these cost money. Regretfully, when my roaster stopped working, had to buy a new one. But because of the heavy expense of buying a brand-new one,I had to DIY roasting at home. With that,I opted to start roasting coffee beans with a popcorn machine.
How to Roast in a Popcorn Machine
Setup your popper in a well lit spot. A bright environment will help you to notice the tone of the coffee beans and estimate whether or not the beans are properly cooked.
Use around 3 ounces of coffee . Don’t forget, measurement also is based on the type of the popper. You can certainly even add the suggested amount inside the popper (i.e. if the popper recommends 4 ounces of corn, then put 4 ounces of coffee beans).
Pour the coffee beans into the popping machine and place the cap on.
Get a vessel with a large mouth and cover it with a wet paper towel or a damp washcloth.
Place the container right by the opening of the popcorn popper to capture the chaff.
When you roast the coffee beans, follow the instructions of the popper producer. In basic, you should await about 4-7 minutes but constantly continue inspecting the color of the beans.
Take the beans off before it reaches your preferred roasting level. Put them in a colander and toss the beans. While the beans are still hot,it’s still cooking. That’s why you should remove them from the popper before they surpass your preferred roast.
If you like a light roast coffee, when the coffee begins to expand, remove the beans from the popper.
Just let the beans prepare till the 2nd crack and then you can take it off if you like it medium roast.
Just leave the beans in the popper a bit more till you’ve reached its preferred roast if you choose a dark roast.
Tips to Remember when Roasting Coffee
Suggestion 1: Plug Directly on the Wall
When you plug your popper straight on the wall, you get more wattage. When using a power cord, you are splitting the power within the power cord.
